Vision on Return

Most asylum seekers in the Netherlands – and in the rest of Europe – are not eligible for a residence permit. To assist them in constructing a dignified and valuable future in the country of origin, a number of asylum and development organisations have formulated a common vision on return.

The highlights of the shared vision

  • Investing – Every asylum seeker, pending the result of his procedure, is given the chance to actively prepare for his future, wherever in the world this may lie. This consists of training, mediation and supervision that enable the asylum seeker to take a well-informed decision concerning his future;
  • Together – The organisations involved – in the area of migration as well as development; in the Netherlands, in Europe and in the countries of origin – work together based on complementarities;
  • Sustainably – All effort is geared towards sustainable return, with focus on economic independence and social reintegration in the country of origin.

The shared vision was presented to the Dutch Minister of Development Cooperation and the state Secretary of Justice. The full document can be downloaded under publications (Dutch only).
